Must read -- Brad Friedman's direct experience with failed election administration in Los Angeles

Brad Friedman of Bradblog voted yesterday in Los Angeles. His report showcases the ongoing problems with making our for-profit, private software work.

It's high-time for a national conversation about just who owns our elections -- and who's responsible for protecting voting rights. Despite the efforts of thousands of good eleciton officials and pollworkers, the current structure just doesn't work.

As I suggested recently, I'd like to see an initiative to take on the issue of outsourcing of our elections. Brad is an ally in that call to action, and as a start we should try to make sure more people out there can tell their stories to put this need for change on the frontburner -- and keep it there.
