Edwin Pacheco’s legislation to allow young adults who “pre-register” to vote upon turning 16 be automatically registered to vote when they turn 18.

California Senate Elections Committee Approves National Popular Vote Bill

Legislation to implement the National Popular Vote plan, a multi-state agreement to establish a national popular vote for President, continued moving forward in California today with approval by the Senate Elections Committee by a vote of 3-1. AB 2948, authored by Assemblyman Tom Umberg (D -Anaheim), already passed the California Assembly on May 30. The legislation would enact the “Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote.”

Pre-Registration for 16-year-olds passes Rhode Island Senate

HB 8022, a bill allowing 16-year-olds who pre-register to vote to be automatically registered when they turn 18, has now passed the Rhode Island Senate. The Bill has moved smoothly through both house of the Rhode Island legislature with its introduction on April 25th and its passage from the senate almost two months later.

In California, Major Endorsements for National Popular Vote Plan

After the passage of AB 2948, public support for legislation to take California into an interstate compact to award its electoral votes to the national popular vote winner picked up considerable steam over the weekend. The legislation gained the editorial endorsement of the Los Angeles Times and the Sacramento Bee.

Legislation to implement the National Popular Vote plan, a multi-state agreement to establish a national popular vote for President, was adopted handily today by the California Assembly - by an initial margin of 17 votes, 42-25. Sponsored byAssemblyman Tom Umberg (D), AB 2948 would enact the "Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote."
