IRV, Poker Chips, and Coalition Building in Minneapolis

Fox 9 in Minneapolis did a little story on a city council race about to be decided via instant runoff voting (a.k.a. ranked choice). It shows the fascinating aspect of IRV in which candidates competing for the same office can form coalitions to appeal to each other's supporters rather than concentrate on denigrating each other (of course, in this instance, all the challengers have opted to gang up on the incumbent).

Here's the TV clip, weird and less-than-helpful poker chip analogy and all.
