Even the most die-hard Yankee’s fan would see something wrong with Derek Jeter acting as umpire in a game he’s playing in as shortstop. HR 512, the Fair Election Integrity Act, is designed to prevent this in the context of American elections.

HR 512 would prohibit a state’s chief elections officer from campaigning for a candidate in a federal elections s/he oversees (other than one where that election official might be seeking election). Proposed by Susan Davis of California, the bill has two co-sponsors.    

The bill would amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971. Originally introduced in Jan. 2009, the bill passed committee this week by a voice vote. It is expected to reach the U.S. House floor for a vote this week.
