Choice voting loses 57% to 43% in Lowell

by Rob Richie // Published November 3, 2009

The choice voting form of proportional representation was placed on the ballot by a grassroots campaign this year led by One Lowell. It took on a winner-take-all, at-large voting system that contributed to most winners coming from just two neighborhoods in the city and distortions in representation by race and gender.

For an idea that wasn't being debated a year ago, choice voting did very well on the ballot today. But "doing well" with 43% still spells defeat. See results at the Lowell Sun.
