July 25-26, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights will be holding a conference in Washington DC to discuss the role the Voting Rights Act played and continues to play in American politics and American society.  The event coincides with the 40th anniversary of President Lynden B Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act into law.  If they are not renewed, certain key provisions of the Voting Rights Act will expire in 2007.
