Texas Secretary of State Phil Wilson says a year on the job is enough.
Phil_wilsonWilson, left, announced this morning that he's leaving his post as the state's top elections official and roving ambassador for the governor effective July 6. He wants to pursue "other opportunities."
"I have been honored to serve in this role for the people of Texas and am proud of the accomplishments we achieved during our time in office; overseeing the largest primary in Texas history, being part of bringing thousands of new jobs to Texas, and investing in our states future employers and technologies," said Wlison, who took over in June 2007 for North Texas car dealer Roger Williams.
Wilson has worked for Gov. Rick Perry in a number of capacities since 2002, including chairing the Governor's Competitiveness Council and on the Border Security Council and leading the state's efforts in economic development through the Texas Enterprise Fund and Emerging Technology Fund.
"I want to thank Governor Perry for the opportunity he has given me and thank my tremendous staff,” Wilson added. “I know that the success we have had will continue."
No word on a possible replacement for Wilson, who's the fifth secretary of state during Perry's 7 1/2 years as governor.
