This month's (July) SoS Spotlight:

FairVote salutes Election Day Registration, also known as “Same Day Registration,” as a worthwhile election policy.

Election Day Registration allows eligible citizens to register and vote on Election Day. It is our belief election officials should remove anything that may become a barrier to the election process.

Right now, eight states have Election Day Registration, and North Carolina, allows for Same Day Registration at early voting sites.

According to Demos, a non-partisan public policy research and advocacy organization, voter turnout in states with Election Day Registration is typically 10-12 percent higher than states without the policy.

Election Day Registration significantly increases participation in American democracy and we urge other states to follow Maine, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Iowa, and North Carolina.
