California Win for National Popular Vote: FairVote Reforms on the Move

California Governor Jerry Brown today signed the National Popular Vote plan for president. Five years after FairVote joined with other reformers to launch the effort, it is halfway to enactment. It is law in states representing 49% of the electoral votes necessary to govern the next presidential election.

Meanwhile: the amendment to establish a Constitutional right to vote gained more than 25 new sponsors in the past two weeks; ranked choice voting is moving toward exciting elections in major cities this fall in Maine, Minnesota and California; FairVote co-founder John Anderson has a new Roll Call oped making the case for replacing winner-take-all congressional elections with proportional voting and chair Krist Novoselic and director Rob Richie's recent case for proportional voting ran in papers like Newsday, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Sacramento Bee and the Charlotte Observer.
